‘Not everyone can run a marathon or cycle to Brighton!’ – Julie
After being treated successfully at St Mark’s, Julie wanted to do something to give back to the Hospital for the care she received. She got in touch with us a few months ago with her idea of hosting a vintage afternoon tea to raise funds and awareness for the Hospital.
Here’s a message from Julie about the event:
Thank you just wasn’t enough! So Saturday the 1st of June saw my family and I host a vintage afternoon tea party at home for our family and friends. The staff at Townsend Church of England School in St Albans also got involved by making donations for cakes taken into their staff room. We also received a donation from F.Hinds Jewellers, my husband’s employer.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The weather was beautiful and so was the company with over 40 of us drinking tea, enjoying plenty of sandwiches and cakes, and we did a raffle too.
We had originally set a target of £500. In the end, the collection tins loaned to us by St Mark’s Hospital Foundation weren’t big enough to hold our total of £1134.44! This is a great start to my pay back to St Mark’s Hospital.

On behalf of all at St Mark’s Hospital, a big thank you to Julie, her family, and all that contributed to help us a get a little closer to a future free from the fear of bowel disease.
