The St Mark’s Difference
St Mark’s Hospital Foundation is dedicated to funding groundbreaking research at St Mark’s Hospital and supporting training and education of medical professionals. By donating today, you’ll help St Mark’s continue its vital work, which is making a difference for thousands of individuals affected by complex, and rare, bowel diseases.
One Year On: Mark’s Story in His Daughter’s Words

Every day, remarkable individuals and families come through St Mark’s doors, inspiring hope through adversity. This season, we are inspired by patient, Mark, and his daughter Caroline.
Caroline shared that, “On New Year’s Eve 2024, St Mark’s performed ‘re-connection of the intestine’ surgery which has allowed dad to live without intravenous feeding and nursing support. This would have been unthinkable a year ago. This Christmas, dad will be able to eat and enjoy food with us, all thanks to St Mark’s.”
In gratitude to the team that saved her dad’s life, Caroline and her partner, Joe, completed a half marathon and raised an incredible amount to support St Mark’s. Philanthropy like theirs continues to help St Mark’s innovate and maintain excellent care for patients and influence standards of care nationally.
Your Support Makes a Difference
Our work supporting research, education and innovation at St Mark’s is only possible because of people like you, Caroline and Joe. Bowel disease continues to affect more lives, and we can and must do more.
With your support, we can continue to:
- Invest in more research pushing the boundaries of what is possible for patients.
- Fund the costs of our research fellows, the future leaders in gastroenterology and colorectal surgery.
- Deliver an annual programme of education which is helping to improve standards of care.
Above all, the most important impact of St Mark’s work is the difference it makes for patients. This time last year, Mark was entering a new year facing an uncertain future. He now has a second chance at life. Patients like Mark remind us why we must keep pushing frontiers in research and education if we want to create a better future for everyone affected by bowel disease. This future will be powered by our supporters.
By supporting St Mark’s, you help to transform lives. This festive period, you can be the reason that more stories like Mark’s are possible. Please consider supporting our appeal today and let’s end bowel disease together.
